    Degree Options Help!

    Hello,
My brother has finished three of four years in a criminal justice program. His initial goal was to become a police officer, but, in the last year he has met his fiancee, and the two of them are planning a family. He understands the risks involved in police work and is now less likely to become a cop, but doesn't want to throw away the three years he has in school. Can anyone suggest career options that he could look at that he could use his degree in that would involve less risk? Thanks for your help.

He might consider a minor in some other field. When I was in school I had the opportunity to talk with a few corporate security types (not the schmoe walking around the building the managers). They were saying that the CJ and a business minor would make me very marketable to private industry. They could have been blowing smoke. I didn't go that route and only have the CJ major.

I know the Florida regional manager of security for a bank- he's former NYPD, but he has degrees in Criminal Justice, Business, and Management. Any management- related degree will help in getting a corporate security job.
Politicians are like diapers- they should be changed regularly, and for the same reason.

Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach a person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks.

One of my fellow criminal justice majors who I graduated with landed a job with Sams corporate security right out of college making more than any of us who went into law enforecment. So the corporate world is a place he may want to look.

Another thing to consider, he may want to change his major. It may mean an extra semester but a more broad degree may help him in the long run.

In retrospect, I wish I would have minored in criminal justice and majored in business or one of the social sciences.
Helen Keller graduated from college with honors. She was blind and deaf. So what's your problem?

Not only Sam's but Wal-Mart as well. I've heard that a Manager with wal-mart's loss pervention can make up to 50K (maybe more) a year depending on location.

Depening on what he want a lot of the time what the degree is is less important then having a degree. I've heard that someting like 65 or 70% of people have a job in something other than what their degree is in.
