How many of you were the smart, mature kids in school? I'm considered one and take advanced classes but the one thing I'm struggling with is other peoples' expectations. They figure I'm going to be a doctor or something, but when I tell them I'm interested in Law Enforcement some seem a little taken aback, probably because they consider it a blue-collar job. I know I should do what I want and listen to no one else, but it's always in the back of my mind. Thoughts?

superkoopa, do what ever it is that is going to make you happy. I know exactly what you are talking about, I just got my law degree and I am hoping to be in an academy here in a few months. I always get a look from people when they find out about my degree and that I plan on being a cop. I don't let it bother me, because I'm doing what I have always wanted to do.
A friend of mine got screwed over by a political department and forced into retirement. He already had his Masters, so he went to Law School, got a job paying about 4x more than he was making at the department. He enjoys being a lawyer, but when he and I get a few drinks into us, all the old war stories come out.
Moral of the story, get the learning out of the way. Cuz you never know when you might need that nice piece of paper telling people you dun have an education.
