    Question Forensic Tech Requirements Question

    Hi there!

I have a quick question regarding a job posting in my area for a forensic tech. The position requires 1-2 years experience but education can be substituted for experience. I will graduate in August of this year with a BS in Criminal Justice and in December 2006 I will have completed a Certificate in Crime Scene Technology. Do you think the fact that my education isn't quite complete will stop me from being hired? I am really close and can finish school while working. I have coursework in criminalistics.

So many of these jobs require experience but how do you get the experience if you can't get hired without it?!;)

Thanks in advance for any advice offered!

That would be a question more suitable for the department you are looking at, since crime scene tech requirements vary so much depending on the agency.
Why is it that all these jerkoffs seem to know about the right to remain silent, but I have yet to find one of them to actually exercise that right. -Legoate

Our crime scene techs come from patrol, we have three different levels then if you get lucky you go to the forensic academy and you are a forensic tech. We don't hire outside for our forensics unit.

Is there any requirement for what the degree has to be in? We require a four year degree for our crime scene techs, and also require it to be in the natural sciences.
