Just overall question

I am a firefighter and am going back to school for Criminal Justice, I'm working on getting this certificate called Loss Prevention/Security Specialist certificate 18 credits...i think it might be good...but there are NO jobs here in Michigan...its really bad...is it pretty much just Michigan that is bad for becoming a police officer??? Also..i would like to become a PSO (public safety officer police/fire) and am having a hard time finding departments like that...is that a fading thing? or a new thing?

There are jobs in Michigan. You just have to look. Dont think of Michigan being so BAD to become an officer. There is a reason for that. When you do become an officer the guys backing you up will be just as professional and trained as you are.

You should be COMFORTED to know that Michigan has high standards for LEO's

Public Safety departments are becoming popular. I know of a few cities in my area that would love to combine their departments.

yeah...i know owosso is trying to and its not going too well...what are some other departments that are doing that do you know...i know grosse point farms...kalamazoo....a few cities in the UP...like i said earlier...i do love the way training is done in michigan it just seems higher (which isn't bad) then any other states...

Kalamazoo has one of the best DPS agencies in the entire country.

I was talking to the Lansing recruiter last week at my job fair. She was telling me that yes there are a lot of departments that aren't hiring but she thinks that is going to change in the next 2 years or so. But there are still people getting jobs in the state, you just have to look for them.
