    Southern Police Institute (SPI)

I went down to Louisville, KY over Christmas to visit some family. It's a great city, I've always loved it. Anyways, I walked around the University of Louisville campus for a little bit just to check things out because I've been thinking about tranferring. I was unaware until ths weekend, Louisville is home of the Southern Police Institute. From what I've read on their website, it sounds like a really competitive program. Unfortunatly for me you must be a full time LEO to even be accepted.

Anyone have any insight about this program?

Which program specifically are you referring to? I've heard that the SPI's Administrative Officers Course is similar to the FBI's National Academy for law enforcment executives, though I'm not sure to what extent the similarities are.
    What weekends are all about!

Ros is correct about their AOC, and that's the main course that the SPI is known for. Pretty much everyone from our department with the rank of lieutenant or above has completed the course or will complete it in time. You've got to be a supervisor to be accepted into the program. Like Ros said, it's basically a mini FBINA on the regional level.

They also teach other specialized courses that are geared more toward line officers and investigators, just like any other provider of law enforcement training. They don't teach many of those courses though, mainly because the Dept. of Criminal Justice Training at EKU in Richmond is the primary provider of continuing training to LEOs in KY.
