Starting my CJPSS-AS on monday and I have a few questions

I am starting my first classes on my way to earning my CJPSS-AS Degree on monday. It will take me aprox 2yrs for my 30 credits then i enter the academy for the remainder of the credits. Would it be a smart choice to try to squeeze in some volunteer time with a local department whenever possible during these 2yrs ? I would have to complete a volunteer academy also but i could swing it. And would this help me in the employment process in landing a LEO position after completing the academy ?

Volunteer time doing what? Being a reserve LEO is often a non-paid volunteer position that can give you experience and training as a LEO. On the other hand, volunteering at the local soup kitchen is honorable and helps out the less fortunate, but isn't going to help you get hired over any other volunteer work.

As a reserve LEO. Thats what I'm looking for is to gain some experience, and get my foot in the door basically with one of the local departments I'm interested in pursuing upon completion of the academy.

Well I recently finished my first semester of course work, and I am now getting ready to begin my second. I still have quite a road ahead of me, but I am very determined to come out on top. Currently entering my second semester backed by a 4.0 GPA, hoping to become noticed along this road.
