Out of State wanting to joing LAPD

I'm a north carolina resident who is 21 living with my husband (who is military *but getting out*) in north carolina. I finish my associates degree in about a year for psychology and have always wanted to join the LAPD (kind of a dream of mine actually). I was wondering what steps I can take to apply to the LAPD and do they offer anything special (like expidited testing) for someone traveling to california to apply? Also any information on the academy would be appreciated.

May I ask why Los Angeles? If you're not from CA, now is definitely NOT the time to move here. The illegal aliens are OUT OF CONTROL, the economy SUCKS, the state is in HUGE DEBT right now, the cost of living is HIGH, rent is HIGH, and it's difficult to purchase a home. There are tons of great police departments all over the county. I would stay away from CA. Just a word of advice from a CA police officer.

Try a few departments up north of CA. This is where some Californians run away to, unfortunately importing their politics. The transplanted California politics just replicates the mess they left.

California looks cool on TV. Go to LA, get a good look in-person, and decide. There are some beautiful places in Calif. and some wonderful people, just too bad they are in California. California is an example of government existing to serve itself first.

Recall seeing an add in The Blues newspaper maybe six years back. LAPD officers started out somewhere in the high 40's.
Thought that was awesome pay to start out, then I researched a little more into the cost of living in that area.
Those high 40's didn't look that attractive anymore.

The cost of housing there is astronomical even in comparison with the pay.

Oregon's state budget is projected to be one billion dollars short next fiscal year and the cuts will come down to the county and municipal governments to some degree.
