is there "too much" training?

Just wondering if someone could help me out.
Quick background: 3 years active army as a tanker (19k) 2 iraq trips now in the guard as an MP.
Currently an armed security officer but it's subcontracted to the gov't (can't say more than that)
Currently going to ARC for my AA in business because every current and former officer i know says CJ is a dime-a-dozen and to get a degree i can fall back on it something bad happens as a cop (legs shot out, ect)
I've had ALOT of tactical training from my job.
I shoot competition IPSC for fun (production class only)
Crystal clear record never had ANY problems other than a few tickets.

Questions:
Is there such thing as too much training? by that I mean with the competition shooting, and basically, all the gun loving fun I have will some depts see me as some kind of gun-loving cowboy? I'm just trying to show that I can be safe and professional with fire arms, and well...i do love shooting

Will the AA help more then not having it? I know full well I can get a job right now with just the military experience, but everyone i know says go to school first. However I noticed that not a lot of depts mention any benefits to an AA mostly they start at the BA level. My thought is an AA is a good start and hopefully will give me a better chance than vet's who don't have it.

While I'm at ARC I thought about just going thru the POST academy they have and get POST'd as well so I can just go straight on.

My specific goal is Placer County Sheriff. Long term either the SET or MET team. I'd really like to be in a tactical unit, or some sort of drug task force.

Am I missing anything? How can I make myself look better or is there such a thing as "over kill?" Feedback please. Thank you.

IMO, there is no such thing as "too much training" - Unless it's the Wrong kind of training and/or something you will have to completely unlearn.

Skill with firearms is a nice ability to have but it isn't the end all be all of LE skills. I don't think people will take your background the wrong way unless you make it a huge deal (e.g. that's all you talk/care about and/or you walk around like your crap don't stink just because you can shoot halfway decently). Personally, I would keep it on the downlow and let my instructors find out when they review my targets.

Having said that, the OP is nearly halfway to being a Police Explorer in some departments.

I would HIGHLY recommend some Explorer training. It quite possibly could overshadow two tours to Iraq and everything else. :rolleyes:
