I know this is going to open a can of worms and rightfully so as this topic is conveniently forgotten about. The Arizona legal debate has brought immigration to the table for the nation, and the current administration that has chosen to avoid the boarder and subsequent illegal activities. Drug runners are routinely moving across the border, violence is spilling over and the health risk of disease is threatening our healthcare system. Illegal alien immigration is costing this nation both on the federal and state level billions of dollars each year as it drains support services; limiting their overall effectiveness in providing services for legal residents of this nation. Documentaries are routinely played on several channels and interviews given with poor peasants from Latin America as they cross the border in the search of the “American Dream.” These fail to educate legal residents about the health risk, and increased crime risk these undocumented aliens may inflict. Over the past month pro-illegal alien posters have actively sought answers on Arizona’s new law but have failed to realize that federal law already mandates documentation and set process for entering this national legally; avoiding those steps and you have already broken the law. This is not a battle about race, religion, or creed as every walk of life has entered this nation and made it home, but the majority of illegal immigration to the United States is from the Latin America’s across the United States - Mexican border and as the source of the majority of the issue should be targeted with increased scrutiny than any other land, sea or air boundary this national may have. United States citizens have the duty and right to protect our federal, state and personal property.

Immigration has degenerated to a voter enrollment drive for the Democrat party. Everything they say, every lie they tell, is directed towards illegals becoming a Democrat voter bloc. Some Republicans looked at the illegals as a labor pool of people who would do work that US citizens no longer would.

The dysfunctional border and ilegal immigration is our constant reminder that Jimmy Carter once resided in the White House. Such a legacy. Makes one wonder what the present tenant at 1600 Pennsylvania will leave behind as his legacy.

I am tired of the fact that if I am white and speak about the border I am labled as a racist; other groups such as hispanics as a attempt too distance themselves from this make sure in the political enviroment if it is not clear to lable them as Latin. As a Scot-Irish American, do I not know hardship? Do we not have an equal voice in this as citizens of this nation? I am not racist, I dont care if your black, brown, green or white. Its about following the process of this nation and understanding citizenship is not ment to happen in a day, nor is it ment for everyone.

It does mean more. It takes more guts for a Hispanic to speak out against illegal immigration than it does you or I. I admire him for it and proud that he did.

Irish immigrated in the 1840’s in massive waves and criticized at the time. The Chinese were brought to San Francisco to build the railroads and criticized. This is an issue that affects all citizens in the United States equally.

It's quite simple. The conversation and your OP had nothing to do with legal immigration.

Not many Russians and Eastern bloc people came here illegally. The Atlantic Ocean is a bit bigger than the Rio Grande.

The Irish and the Chinese came here legally. Now the conversation is illegal immigrants, right? Who's coming over here illegally and causing problems? Hispanics?

Chevy's post was relating to the new Arizona in the Ask a Cop part of the forum under the Deportation and Arizona Law debate thread. I think Chevy very level headed poster, but if debating an issue/law or providing information, race should not apply but it has continually played as an issue throughout the media.

Ease of access across the Mexican border makes Latin ethnic groups the number one for illegal immigration into the United States, but China and India are the largest and fast growing groups. The ocean prevents some but with modern jet liners and merchant vessels it’s not a barrier than will stop the determined.
