PHOENIX - The border battle is heating up, especially with Senate Bill 1070 still on Gov. Brewer's desk. And now several thousand people from California are heading here to protest the bill.
Meantime, there were cheers Wednesday outside the 4th Avenue jail as nine people were released on bail. They chained themselves to the front doors of the Arizona State Capitol, hoping their message would reach Governor Jan Brewer.
The group, mostly college students, are against that a tough immigration bill that just passed through the state legislature.
Now, the group says the fight isn't over.
The bill is awaiting Governor Brewer's signature and it would give Arizona some of the toughest immigration laws in the country and that's what has groups like this one upset.

Statements from the group:
"We're not going to take this. This is like dehumanizing. That's the message that we want to send is that we're that we're doing anything crazy, we're trying to stop something crazy from happening."
"Every government agency is gonna be combined now with immigration and that's just facilitating massive, massive..blunt racial profiling and racist propaganda."
"Don't let fear hold you back anymore. Arizona right now is ground zero for all this suppressive fearful..fearful environment that we live through right now..this has never been done before on this level in the state of Arizona."

The demonstrators want Governor Brewer to veto Senate Bill 1070. It would make it a crime to be an illegal alien in Arizona. It also allows all law enforcement agencies to inquire about a person's legal status.
The protestors are asking everyone who is against the bill to join their cause.
There are concerns that if the bill becomes law, businesses and others might boycott Arizona. But the State Senator behind this bill, Russell Pearce, says it will allow police to go after illegal immigrants and will free up jobs in Arizona for legal citizens.
Governor Brewer has until Saturday night to sign it, veto it or leave it unsigned and allow it to automatically become law.
