    Student programs for Border Patrol

Im a college student and a CSO at the campus police dept. and I am really considering becoming a Border Patrol Agent. I came across some Federal programs geared towards student workers but i couldn't find the information i was seeking.

Does anyone know if joining Border Patrol through SCEP allows you to be like a "part-time" sworn border patrol agent? Or is it like you are stuck working behind a desk as a non-sworn, unarmed employee?

It would be a rather awesome learning opportunity as well as a bad ass college job, (though i realize it is not "just any job")to be a sworn LEO while getting a 4 year education.

    TIA

I am aware of no federal programs that allow a college student to be a "part time," sworn, armed, cop.

You can go to school full time first, or you can get hired on full time and try to work school in as you can.

There are some federal agencies that have intern programs. Interns sometimes get to go out on search warrants and stuff. But they are unarmed, unsworn, and have no authority. When they go out on warrants, they can go in after everybody is cuffed and the house is cleared. I think that the USMS has a current intern program. A few guys that I worked with in the USBP went through the USMS intern program. The old Customs Service had an intern program as well, but I don't think that the new ICE has anything like that. Some people in my CITP class had completed the Customs intern program. Do a dilligent search and make some calls. You'll find something.
