can anyone tell me the difference between a border patrol agent and CBP? Is there a difference?
can anyone tell me the difference between a border patrol agent and CBP? Is there a difference?
:D
Oh I had to :p
Anyway yeah CBP is Customs and Border Protection. They are in charge of well, Wikipedia has a good explanation
CBP
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is an agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security charged with regulating and facilitating international trade, collecting import duties, and enforcing U.S. trade laws.
And
Border Patrol
The United States Border Patrol is a federal law enforcement agency within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), an agency of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Its 11,000 Agents are primarily responsible for immigration and border law enforcement as codified in the Immigration and Nationality Act. Their duties are to prevent terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the United States of America, plus the deterrence, detection and apprehension of illegal immigrants and individuals involved in the illegal drug trade who generally enter the United States other than through designated ports of entry.
Alright, I was just reading up on the CBP article in Wikipedia and I love this part
The CBP workforce is filled with many hard working people who are led by managers which are of poor quality and looking for the next step up the career ladder.
LMAO :D

CBP Officers are the grumpy irritable bastards that you talk to in the little booths when you cross the border or fly into an airport. Border Patrol Agents are the people in green you probably rarely see (unless you're running through the desert in the middle of the night)
If you want to do traditional patrol type police work then BP would be your choice. If you like to make decent money and do little then CBP is your best bet.
Stay Alert, Stay Alive!!
Normally I would say don't believe everything you read in Wikipedia but in this case I's say they hit it on the head!! :DOriginally Posted by Hockey9019

It looks like you probably get the gist by now. What makes it confusing for our non-DHS brethren is the fact that the Border Patrol is under the administrative control of CBP. It works much like the way the Marines are a part of the Navy. Marines aren't in the Navy, and Border Patrol Agents aren't in CBP. Make sense?
CBP isn't as bad as everybody says. I've never been a CBP Officer, but I've worked with them. I have gotten many anti-smuggling cases started because of their hard work. So, I wouldn't call them "nothing but toll collectors". They are kind of a bastard agency in a way. They actually have lots of statutory powers. It's just that they're never allowed to use them.
