    Some BPA questions.

I'm interested in applying to the CBP BPA announcement. However, I'm looking for some insight as to what a BPA actually does. I've been through all the recruitment information, and of course it's made to look like being a BPA agent is a bunch of riding ATV's and Dune Buggy's along the border.

I understand that duties vary greatly by location, but if some BPA could sound off and give me some insight as to what their day is like it would be greatly helpful.

I'm assuming that there must be something more to it that a BPO. Because from what I understand a BPO is basically just works the designated crossing points, and does that sort of thing.

Being a BP Agent is arresting illegal aliens and doing regular Police Patrol type work along the border... You don't want that, come join CBP as an Officer and you can spend 30+ years sitting your butt in a small square coffin of a booth being disgruntled hating the world and slowly rotting away from the inside out as you sit there doing nothing with your life because your bosses won't let you do your job and NO ONE has any respect for you as a real Officer because your management will make policies and regulations that limit you soooo bad that you basically are just a "Walmart Greeter" at the border welcoming all of your "customers" (no ****, they refer to all of the people we allow into the country as well as the ones we arrest or deport as "customers") into your fine country!

Na, Forget BP and come be a CBPO... We're the Real Police! ***Cough, cough**** Excuse me while I cough up whats left of my soul!

He's no more bitter than I am. CBP keeps telling us how they want to be "America's premier law enforcement agency" and then in the next breath they tell us about the next barrier they are putting in our way to prevent us from doing our jobs and enforcing the law.

    Cjcrew,

Suffice to say, a good bit of their examples are likely not best aired in a public forum. If you care to find out more, you may do a search of prior posts from the above gentlemen, which will give you examples.

For now, let's redirect this thread back to its original topic: US Border Patrol.

    Jump,

I think you mean CBPO not BPO

It's very difficult to discribe what a typical day is like. As stated it all depends on your duty location. I work at a "checkpoint" station so my duties deal with the checkpoint, mostly Traffic & Bus check. But, we also have ranch & highway check.

If you go to a "line" station you will do mostly ranch work with some town or bus checks.

The big difference is that at a checkpoint station the work comes to you at a line station you have to go find the work. Checkpoints tend to give you a greater range of experience (processing, narcotics, interviewing, false doc's, ect..) but line stations get better collateral duties.

This is a short list of the different collateral duties:
    K-9
    ATV
    Horse Patrol
    Boat Patrol
    Bike Patrol
    Prosecutions
    Seized Property
    FIST
    BORTAC
    SRT
    BORSTAR
    INTELL

Sign up to take the test. It can't hurt.

Sorry, I realized BPO was not correct after I posted it, but I figured everyone would get the idea.

At any rate, I'm in my last year of school at Ohio State, and I'm really considering applying to be a BP Agent, I'm really just trying to get a little better feel for it.

Take a look at this site, as it seems pretty informative (and has a BP forum): http://www.honorfirst.com/usbp1.htm
