Well, I wasn't saying I've been here forever I was just making the point that it DOES, in fact, happen. I work with at least three people that have done it and two that just left here to go to DC for the same thing. It isn't misinformation if it's true. If you did 30 years with Customs then you should know that it does happen. I know it's not a new thing because one of the other Officers I work with went to DC for four years back in the early 90's got his 13 then came back here as an 11 step ten modified pay to match the 13 pay he was at when he took the grade decrease. As far as the *** part... everyone here knows me so they already know that about me.

If you are going to pass out such GROSS MISINFORMATION to the unsuspecting masses, perhaps you ought to try it yourself. Why not put in for a GS-4 and see what happens?

Hmmmm, Mr. Know it All is the one who doesn't have a clue actually. Our most senior officer here (Sept of 1975) was a GS-12 for almost the entire 1980's, but is now a GS-11.

He wasn't busted, but gave up the supervisory position at his own request. So TOUGH GUY....there you go, it's more than a dream like you seem to think.

I bet you were a swell guy to work with, good thing your retired now!

We've got guys in the Patrol that have done the same thing Chewy mentions. Same thing happens if people change agencies too.

Actually, to that second quote in ahenry's last post I'll say that I almost... ALMOST... did do that. About three or so years ago I almost busted from an 11 to a 7 to go into the NPS as a Park Ranger. I really really want to be a Ranger (now I know that I secretly just want anything but cbp :p) and was willing to bust down for it. The only catch is that my wife wouldn't move so I ignored the opportunity. But I did talk to the recruiter and he said they would do just that. The only down side is that it would have been like a 7 step 10 modified pay then I wouldn't really ever get any more increases unless I got promoted to a 9.

I have to back Chewy as well.

I also know several people who have "busted back". Local station had a GS-15 from HQ in DC bust back to take the GS-13 job. He didn't loose any money.

The reason why you don't see a lot of people doing it (busting Back) is because most people can't go from being the boss, back to being a line grunt.
