    Question Border Patrol sidearm?

Hello I'd appreciate any help any Border Patrol Agents can offer. Does the BP allow any non issue pistols to be carried? Is the issue pistol still the DAO 96? I'm through most of the hiring process. Just medical and oral board left. Would really like to keep carrying my Kimber 1911.

Right now for new hires they are getting the H&K P2000. That's the only one you will be able to use. I am still carrying the DAO 96D Brigadier. What you carry off duty is up to you but remember that the service won't back you if you use a non issued firearm.

    Hope this helps.

Another question along the same lines. Does the USBP issue any long guns? I'd imagine an 870 at least, maybe an AR-15.

Not to be an ***....but why do folks care about what weapons are issued by a certain agency??

You either want to do the job and take what they give you....or you look elsewhere.....simple as that.......

Bearcat06 I'll tell you where I'm coming from for the last several years my issue weapon (an M-4mws) has been my life. If an agency is handing out a weapon I can't trust my life on no way will I work for that agency. Unless I can carry something I trust. In this case I'm happy to carry a HK P2000. On the long guns it is more curiosity than anything. Because I expect all pump shotguns to function everytime, and any autoloading rifle is only as good as its maintenance.

If you are wondering, at my office I am issued the M4 (converted to semi) with a Trijicon ACOG and an 870 done by Scattergun Technologies, Wilson combat. And we all still carry the Berette 96D. One guy carries his personal Sig. In the BP all handguns have to be 40 S&W. And I am not sure what they are allowing anymore becuase trainees are getting the P2000. We also have UMP40's in full auto, but nobody checks them out.

Our Sector is a little diferrent than the one's on the southern border becuase we work alone and the closest backup could be hours away.

Once again, I just don't see how that matters.

All modern sidearms are good to go (except old versions of S&W Sigmas that might still be around.....) Some folks like Sig, some like H&K, some like Ruger, some like S&W, some like Glock. As long as the bullet goes out of the end of it....and you are able to hit the target, there should be no issues....

If an agency is issuing some no name sidearm, then I could understand.......
