May 1st boycott

I saw it on CNN but I can't find a link for it.

They where talking about how the illegal immigrants where going to close down schools and business Nation wide, and also block all U.S. ports on May 1st.

I don't think they'll block U.S. Ports just take a day off. Nothing is going to happend to the economy it is merely impossible they would have to not go to work for 1 whole week to have a macro-economic effect, what they plan would be considered a micro economic effect. It won't really matter if they dont show up at thier place of employment for 1 day.

Keep in mind some employers who have hired undocumented workers, have most likely notified those that if they miss work they would be fired or threatend with DEPORTATION. Think about it if you had a Roofing or Construction Buisness and had a really tight deadline and 23 out of 35 workers dont show up would you let them slide? or would you fire theyre assess? some workers WILL NOT TAKE THAT RISK.

Here in Phoenix there is a planed protest on May 1st, some type of human cain from 75th Ave to 32st, they plan to stop business owners from opening up, and customers from going in, also they plan to block traffic.

Yeah, I'm thinking about it and trying to figure out why a business who illegally hired so many illegals as to worry about what their boycott could do would risk drawing the attentention to themselves from INS for hiring them to begin with. A business who fired enmasse like that would be worse for that business than the termination of Air Traffic Controllers back during the Reagan era.

Construction companies would be better off writing the single day off as if it were a weather delay than to try to rustle up new workers without a clue.

BTW, This in no way should indicate my opinion on the subject of Illegals... (see www.numbersusa.com) simply that I don't think it would make sense from a business point of view.

Half the guys I work with were born in Mexico. There's going to be a HUGE rally downtown on monday so that means us non-protestors will be working a double shift trying to keep protestors off of our property with a minimum team. Fantastic. God I hate protestors. Protestors of all types, anti-war, immigration, whatever. At least I'll be getting some overtime for all this. I feel bad for the local pd that gets to babysit a bunch of criminals as they shut down my city. At least the protests seem to be pretty non-violent so far. But I'm sure some punks are going to try to ruin it. Maybe I should invest in an extra pair of cuffs before Monday. Should be interesting. Sorry, rant over.
