    Organ Pipe operations

Way to go Rangers! Organ Pipe is the most dangerous park to work at due to it's location on the border with Mexico. (Big Bend NP is #2). This is from today's morning report.

    http://data2.itc.nps.gov/morningreport/

Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument (AZ)
    Smuggling Interdiction Operations

During a two-week operation in March, rangers from Grant Teton NP, Grand Canyon NP, Sequoia NP and Little River Canyon NPr assisted Organ Pipe rangers in conducting intensive interdiction operations and managing spring break crowds. During this period, rangers seized over 300 pounds of marijuana, seized four vehicles involved in smuggling operations, and arrested over 120 illegal aliens. Rangers were involved in two high-speed pursuits, worked five motor vehicle accidents with injuries, and conducted two SAR operations, including one fatality. A Grand Teton canine team assisted in frontcountry interdiction operations and the dogs made several marijuana, methamphetamine and Soma cases. During the night when spring break traffic heading into Mexico was at its peak, several motor vehicle accidents closed Highway 85 through the park and backed traffic up for six miles. The continued support Organ Pipe receives from other parks allows these special operations to occur with increased safety and effectiveness, particularly as border-related violence escalates. To preserve operational security, individual case specifics are no longer being reported by the park. However, rangers working as part of the multi-agency borderland anti-narcotics task force at Organ Pipe have seized 5,428 pounds of marijuana, arrested 35 smugglers, and apprehended over 600 illegal aliens since January 1st.

Organ Pipe brings a whole new meaning to BFE. That place is desolate. But I do drive through it on the way to Puerto Penasco.
My wife left me alone with a case of Corona, a bag of limes and the cat. Beer is gone. What will I do with the extra limes and the cat?

My old stomping grounds with Customs were right up to (and included part of) Organ Pipe. When I retired in '97, the rangers there would have argued about 'state of the art equipment'. But we all worked together, trying to 'stem the flow'.

And Organ Pipe is positivly crowded compared with some areas on the Tohono O'odham Reservation.

I was talking to Kris' parents the other day and they are very happy with the improvements of the park. It good that his memory will always live on, he was a great guy, and his death hopefully was an end and not the beginning.

Yay Fred! You're talking about my area now. ;O) Those guys do a lot down there and we work with them on a daily basis (e.g. that six-mile pile up was actually 3 MVA's, I handled them hehehe).

Cool. Those NPS LE Rangers don't play. They have some of the best weaponry and equipment available and they get tons of high-speed training. (Yeah, I'm jealous).
Excuse me, lest we forget what Dept you work for! You guys have got to have some of the best collateral duties known to man! No matter how low you think you got it, there is always CBP! J/K
Too many Chiefs and not enough Chewys!

I want a collateral assignment to the circus as a clown car driver. Feels like I work at one sometimes.

Moon Pies and RC Cola make me happy

    Tooooooo true!

I would LOVE to be a NPS Ranger. If only I could get my wife to move and the NPS would pay me what I make now I would go in a minute.
