    This will get ugly.

    --------------------------------------------------
Eyewitness News_4 has learned an armed militia along the border near Douglas may take matters into its own hands this July.

Casey Nethercott, the leader of the group said Friday that he doesn't yet want to go into detail on his plans.

He supports the Minutemen, but his backup plan is a much more aggressive approach.

Nethercott_pointed to two black SUV's, saying, "These are armored vehicles. They got quarter-inch steel in them. They'll stop small arms fire and some rifles."

The headquarters of the militia, called the Arizona Guard, sits along the U.S./Mexico border near Douglas, Arizona, in the Southeastern corner of the state.

Pointing again to the vehicles, Nethercott continued, "You'll get killed without them, here's been so many shootouts out here."

So many shootouts, he said, that the back wall is riddled with bullet holes of all sizes from drug smugglers who open fire on the compound; prompting the group's border_project, tentatively planned for July 4th.

"When this Minuteman thing is over, if it doesn't work, we're going to come out here and close the border with machine guns," Nethercott said.

Fighting fire with fire, but Cochise County authorities say the Arizona Guard must act by the letter of the law.

"We will make sure we find out about that, and we will regulate him, just like we regulate the Minuteman Project," explained Paul Newman, a County Supervisor for Cochise County.

The Minutemen, who sat and watched the border still Friday, say they don't support a violent solution.

"I think anytime you go to that length to take the law into your own hands, you're asking for trouble," said Chris Simcox, an organizer for the Minuteman Project.

Eyewitness News_4 has learned of several other groups, including one in California and another in Texas, planning to launch their own_anti-illegal-immigrant projects_soon.

Since our illegal immigrants mostly come by boat, I can't relate to this problem. I'm interested to hear others thoughts on this.

What happens if they start patrolling the border with their guns? I mean, if they fire for self defence, even though they are out there specifically looking for 'trouble' what's the local law's position?

(and no, this isn't supposed to try and turn this into another pro/anti gun thread, just a legal question. For the record the armed 'coyote's and smugglers that cross the southern borders are one reason I agree with the 'right to bear arms' as Cat_Doc will remember. )

If you rob a gas station, you're only going to get about $100, but I get to see a K9 dog use your arm as a chew toy. For all I care you can keep the $100.

I don't support vigilantes. The minuteman project seems to be working without any violence involved. I support extreme measures if enforced by law enforcement or the U.S. military but unsactioned militias with guns are just asking for trouble in my opinion.

I know! My boat sprung a leak, and the swim was terrible with all those gators. One grabbed my cozzie and almost got if off! By the time I hit shore I was exhausted but you guys had those immigration kangeroos who were ready to rumble. I took a beating! I ended up bushwalking which led to a kip and then lead to a digo using me as a toliet. By then I decided it was time to go home. I headed to the local FedEx store. After a couple of schooners and some barbie, he agreed to box me up and send me back overnight delivery.

LOL....I love your language!!! I have wanted to use those words for a long time nad grabbed the first chance!
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

Lol. Not bad. You left out a few choice words like 'dunny' 'tucker' 'thunderbox' 'sheila' and so on.

Saving them for next time? :D

Good for them! It's a damn shame that our government not only refuses to protect our borders and even encourages illegal aliens to come across our borders. Free citizens have not just the right, but a duty, to protect their country from invading forces of aliens and smugglers. UUnfortunately, Bush is very pro-illegal aline so this issue probably won't be solved for some time.

I like the Minuteman project as it is shining a spotlight on a situation both political parties are trying very hard to ignore.

I support self defense but these militia guys are looking for trouble and then are going to cry self defense when they get it. I think they are going to cause more trouble than cause anything good to happen.

That's what I was wondering. If they go out looking for trouble, and everyone knows it, what happens, legally, if they find the trouble they are looking for?

That's how it is here, but I wasn't sure if it was different there.

I bet he hangs around his camp all day saying how things 'should' be done instead of actually contributing to society, productively.
