SPLC Calls Minutemen "Right wing hate group".

    http://www.splcenter.org/intel/hatew...em.jsp?hid=629

Immigration was supposed to be one of the top issues on the agenda when the leaders of the United States, Canada and Mexico gathered for a summit in the city of Waco, Texas, last week. Conservative TV broadcasters in the United States deliver rants about America's "broken borders" on an almost nightly basis, and hundreds of vigilantes are poised to descend on the arid scrubland of southern Arizona this week to launch a manhunt for some of the thousands of Mexican workers crossing into the United States each day. ...
Arizona's newfound reputation as the cradle of the anti-immigration movement has made the state a magnet for vigilantes. Earlier this year a right-wing organization calling itself the Civil Homeland Defense invited volunteers to join a militia that will patrol a 64-kilometer-long stretch of the Arizona border in search of illegal aliens. The brainchild of an ex-schoolteacher from California named Chris Simcox, the so-called Minuteman Project will begin operations on April 1, when he expects several hundred people to sign up. ... The Mexican government fears its citizens may suffer human-rights abuses at the hands of Simcox's militiamen.

Then wouldn't the sane thing be to discourage Mexicans citizens from trying to cross the border illegally?

The article fails to place emphasis on the illegal part of the illegal immigrants. There are legal law abiding immigrants among the minutemen. As for abuses, while engaging in criminal activity an individual is not entitled to the same human rights as a law abiding citizen.

Hmmm. Please! Forgive my zealousness and ignorance, but now I need to ask rationally:
 what exactly will be the methods used by the Minute Men that we think would be a violation of human rights? Are they going to be making citizens arrests and turning them in to authorities? Chasing them away? How? What are the laws pertaining to illegals and are they committing a felony or misdemeanor? Is PF acceptable? ARe the MM sworn Peace Officers or somehthing like that? Any legal authority in some ancient legal clause somewhere?
I admit, I really don't know the details of their plans. Now I know it's time to enlighten myself in regards to these recent events as they progress. Have not wanted to look that closely at such an ugly situation - I have a bad feeling about this. Real bad. (I grew up in So CA and have seen this coming for some time).

They believe that we violate their human rights by stopping them from entering this country illegally.

They can believe whatever they wish. Because in the long run their citizens are still illegal. My concern is the Minutemen becoming overzealous and dorkin it up ala Ranch Rescue.

I'm all for these people doing what they need to do to try and help the illegal immigrant problem.

What I am worried about is some lunatic taking justice into his/her own hands and killing someone.

Point taken, but what about the illegals who come over here and kill people?Would they be called lunatics or are they simply misunderstood?

No they're not called anything because they're the ones who the state and federal agencies "cover up" so people won't get as pissed off about the hundreds and thousands of ILLEGAL imigrants crossing the border every night, even as I type this reply on this thread. The reason we don't hear about the numerous crimes the imigrants commit toward our law abiding hard working blue collard American citizens is because if we heard more about it we'd be more apt to do something about it and the MinuteMan Project is a good example of people who found out and got fed up, someof whom are imigrants themselves. Oh yeah that and there'd be more attention brought toward how just short staffed the Border Patrol really is and the lack of government funding that is causing those agencies to be shorthanded. I for one comend the people of the MMP, police agencies in all of the border states, and especially the brave men and women of the United States Border Patrol. GOOD JOB!!!!!

Everyone is always entitled to their human rights, no matter what they have done. SCOTUS has ruled that illegals are also entitled to certain Constitutionally guaranteed civil rights while in the US.
jill, chill out. ;) MOCOP didn't say the minutemen would be violating anyone's human rights. He simply pointed out an extremely important difference between certain types of rights! :D

I think you watch the news too much. You're starting to buy into the whole "vigilantie" theory. The Minutemen are a whole lot more responsible than most politicians. The illegals know that the worst treatment they would receive here is still far better than the best they can get in Mexico. If one of them got into an altercation and was shot would you automaticly assume that the minuteman was at fault? They have strict rules of engagement they follow. They know that if an incident occured that the media would rip them a new one.
