The minutemen or just a reporting group. They find where they are coming over the border and contact the US Border Patrol. Thats all they do.

Why are you worried? Fear of death is a VERY powerful deterrent. There are people that get caught and returned over and over and over again, they are obviously not deterred at all, now if they think that some psycho rancher is going to beat them to death or shoot them in the back then maybe they will think twice before crossing! I am sick and tired of all the soft hearts pissing and moaning about violation of rights and illegals guarantee to rights, this is a war and should be handled as one. Screw ‘em all. We should just invade Mexico and make it a part of us then they won’t be illegal anymore...besides, I’m sure we could say they have WMD somewhere…heheOriginally Posted by Future_Hopeful

No, that's not all they do. All those right wing, psychopathic, nutjobs will also be offering food and water to those who have made the 2 day trek across the desert. I can't believe how heartless and cruel they can be. :rolleyes:Originally Posted by hscop

They will be offering food and water to who? The illigals?
Yes. I've heard that in several news reports that they are offering food and water. Of course the Border Patrol is on the way too. :DOriginally Posted by hscop

You would not offer extra food and water to someone who is starving after they walked for 2 days across a desert?
Valor55 is referring to an illegal immigrant that wandered into the Minuteman basecamp (which is at a bible college). The illegal was dehydrated and hungry. The Minutemen gave him food and water, possibly saving his life.
My post was directed towards future_hopeful and apparently sarcasm doesn't travel well in a post.Originally Posted by YungBuk

About the article, it refers to them as a "militia"? And I always thought you had to be armed in order to be a militia.
??? these are the same people that have been doing this for several years now. They are just organizing. They definatly DO take people into custody, just not with cuffs. They catch them then round them into a small group and surround them with armed citizens. I don't see a problem with it really, they have been doing it for years and there haven't really been too many problems yet.Originally Posted by LEOWannabe

Chewy,
I don't know about what they've been doing in the past, but I trust your word. However, I don't believe that volunteers participating in the current minuteman project are detaining anyone. The information on their website says that while the organizers honor the right of the other volunteers to carry while watching, they have been instructed to maintain and track from a safe distance, inform BP, and not engage in a hostile confrontation. I posted those guidelines from the MM website in another thread here.
EDIT: Here's the thread to which I refer:

I'm shocked that Valor55 thinks its a bad thing to offer food and water to someone who is starving. Also, no matter what this group does it is verry hard for them to violate someones rights. They are an organization, not part of the government. I agree with you chewy, I also dont see a problem.
I was being very sarcastic. Everyone in the media is saying they are hate mongers and nut jobs who are violating these poor people's civil rights which clearly isn't the case. I completely support what they are doing and I think it is only humane to offer food and water while waiting for the BP to show up.Originally Posted by hscop

Valor55: hehe okay, good. I was about to say.
