Why I love Dallas

Well I guess I got the attention of all the Texans, but sorry, I was referring to my beautiful wife, Dallas.

The last year has been pretty full on for us. I got back in the job, somewhat reluctantly given the dept I joined. And as it turned out my fears were not totally unfounded. I am not entirely happy in the job here, but it pays the bills.

That meant I went back to being a recruit and going through all that that entails. Then I started back out on the road and have had to suck up some pride and be "mentored" by people who weren't even in the job when I was training rookies, and learn processes that at the least are certainly strange, and at the worst are a joke and an embarrassment to the dept.

The rosters at my new dept are crap and only come out in month blocks so you can never plan that far ahead in life. And they are all over the place with no structure.

It has been a bit stressful to say the least.

We have moved house, I had glanduar fever, there have been medical issues for my wife, my son and me, but we are all good now.

We started the year supporting my father in law through a messy divorce with his mentally ill wife, and ended the year burying my mother in law after she committed suicide.

We are finishing the year by trying to buy our first house, signing a contract on 30th December.

And all with a toddler in the house.

This year has been tiring...no exhausting...both physically and mentally.

And through it all my wife has been there for me like a rock. I returned to my first lot of night shift this past week and she did all she could to let me sleep. We never fight, even though I have not been myself lately (very stressed and short tempered because of it). We have talked about it and she knows I am having a rough time at work, and she knows I am not angry at her when I come home grumpy, but I wish I could turn it off before I get home. We only live five minutes from work so maybe it will be better when we move into our own house...longer drive home..and not in traffic...more time to cool down and forget about work.

A few weeks ago we went to a Keith Urban concert and he sang a song I have known for ages, but only really listened to it properly for the first time that night.

To my wife :

We made a lot of memories this year, some good - some not so. You still carry my soul in your heart, just like you have since the day we met.




And to all those out there with better halfs like mine, tell them you love them and don't forget them. I have been a bit guilty this year of doing just that, and to Dallas I am sorry.

Wow Aussie George, that is the most romantic and sweetest thing I have heard in a long time.

You two are truly lucky to have each other in your lives. To have someone to love and care about you, through thick and thin, is a priceless treasure.

May 2010 be a much happier year for the both of you.
