Just wondering what my chances would be.

    Hi all,

This is my first post. I am adamant about becoming a police officer and I have been testing with PDs around the southern Illinois area. I tested for the university police and went to the oral board but i was ranked 24th. I also tested in a consortium which puts my name on 5 different departments in my area. I wound up ranking tied for 6th place out of 127 people. One of the police departments called me yesterday and the LT asked if I was still interested in employment with them and I replied "Oh yes I am!" enthusiastically. He also stated that they would be conducting my background investigation and that a LT will call me in a couple of weeks and to get back to him.

Here is some information about me:

-I am 22 years old and am in pretty good physical, cardiovascular, and muscular shape.
-I work as a security officer and am registered with St.Louis County MO police.
-I am attending college for my B.S. in Criminal Justice and I have received my minor in mathematics, and I have around a year left before I graduate.
-I have no arrest history or juvenile history whatsoever and do not involve myself in criminal activities.
-Absolutely NO drug use period. I moderately drink alcohol but not to the point of inebriation. I am almost always the DD when friends and I go out.
-I did get a speeding ticket before my 21st birthday but I did court supervision and it was supposed to be wiped clean.
-I have no student loans at all and my credit card balance is around 700 because most of my paycheck goes to school and paying off my credit card. I had to cut my hours because of full time school so paying both off at the same time is hard.

One thing I am worried about is that when they do the BI, if they talk to my neighbors, most of the places we have lived, my neighbors have not liked my dad at all. So I think that they would have biased answers about me even though I had very little contact with my neighbors. I guess I could explain this to the investigator.

I am an honest person with nothing to lie about and I have a positive outlook on my future. Based on the information I provided, would this make me a good candidate?

Not a LEO, but I wouldn't be worried if I were you. I've got more in my background than you do (couple of tickets, 1 arrest as a minor which was dropped, but nothing else) and I still managed to pass an oral board with a large competitive dept. in FL. and was just told I'm going to be sponsored through the academy and hired as a reserve upon graduation by another. Academy starts in Jan. I'd bet you do fine.
My neighbors don't like my dad either...

Investigators can generally see through the BS when interviewing neighbors and such if your other associates and employers speak differently of you. You sound good to go.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine
