    Eligebility Question

    Hello

My name is Andrei and I'm quite excited to become a part of this community! Few words about my background... I am 29, have a Bachelor's degree in Law (obtained abroad), and one year of study in the public university here in the US (still in process). Being close to my naturalization procedure, I have gotten inspired by the idea of joining a Law Enforcement Agency, and so far, make some decent contribution to the peace of my new home. So I decided to go to Police Academy (during the evening time) and acquire a Peace Officer Certificate.
Here is my concern. Even though I have been residing in the US for 8+ years, the level of my English is still far from "perfect". I am working really hard to improve my writing and verbal skills, however, I still speak with accent (not too noticeable, in my opinion). Will I encounter any problem ,related to the issue described above, applying for a job? By the way, my physical shape is very good, and my education background is relatively strong)
    Thanks for all replies!

The only thing I can see is some agencies might require you to be a US citizen. Other than that your language ability is a plus. Just keep working on your English ability and you should be fine. Even English ability is not a big deal. Just write your reports in a word processing program and run a spelling and grammar check on it. As far as accents go, have you listened to Americans? We have different accents depending on where you live. Heck I live next to two people (both from the area I live) and they each have a different accent. As long as you can speak well enough to be understood you should be fine.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

Translation for the intellectually challenged: If the government screws the people too much, it is the right and duty of the people to revolt and form a new government.

I agree with above. We require people to be US citizens or be naturalized within the first year of hire.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

You already type better than most of the Ask-A-Cop posters...

Being bilingual can be a big plus. What is your native language ?
