    Looking for some tips

    I am 26 years old and just graduated in May with a bachelor's in business law. I recently moved to Texas and was looking to apply to Dallas and a couple other departments in the area. I got a DUI in California which was dropped to a wet/reckless. I got this when I was 21. I know you don't really know unless you try but is it worth it for me to still apply?

    It would not be an automatic DQ at my agency.

    You never know until you try so go for it.

    With 5 years gone by , having a brand new degree and hopefully you have left " stupidity " behind you...I would say you have a decent chance.

    The only way you'll know for sure you're never going to make it is to never try.

    I say apply.

    Not a DQ where I am. I work with guys who have DUIs prior to hiring, and one who got a DUI while on the job.

    In Texas, reckless driving is a class B misdemeanor. Below are the licensing regulations for Texas peace officers. Regarding the regulations below I have never heard of someone being licensed under Section (B). Good luck to you though.

    (6) conviction history:

    (A) has not ever been convicted of an offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years; but

    (B) the commission may approve the application of a person who was convicted for a Class B misdemeanor at least five (5) years prior to application if an agency administrator sufficiently demonstrates in writing with supporting documentation that mitigating circumstances exist with the case and with the individual applying for licensure, and that the public interest would be served by reducing the waiting period;
