    LEO's Backgrounds

What have some of you LEO's done out there that you were honest about and still got hired? There is so many of what are my chances questions, but why not ask the question the other way and see if any current LEO's had the same situation and the way they went about applying...Just a thought!

I was honest about EVERYTHING I did, and still got hired!

What exactly are you looking for with this? Are you expecting people working as LEOs to have gained said employment after having committed serious criminal offenses in their backgrounds, or extensive illegal drug usage?

I think he's looking for the worst or most shameful thing on a successful app. Obviously it won't be auto DQ stuff. I think there have been a few LEO's that admitted experimental MJ use or "minor in possession" offenses. I don't think it will turn out as interesting as he is hoping. The truth on an app is one thing, but declaring "this got through the process" on an open forum is quite another. There are decertification reasons as simple as "bringing discredit to the profession". Discretion and honesty are both important and I doubt agencies would like to see their officers writing about their youthful transgressions in a competitive way with a "I still got hired" punchline. It just looks bad and doesn't pass the smart test.

Let's put it this way;AZ has a process where an agency can petition POST for a finding that a persons use of drugs was experimental even beyond the limits imposed by POST. I don;t think I want to hear the officer bragging about how much dope he did in the newspaper after everyone goes to bat for him. He should be completely honest with POST and his employer and the courts. And everywhere else he should keep it to himself.

I gathered that, but I kinda wanted Silver to answer that (and there was a reason for me asking).

I was just interested to see what some LEO's had done yet were honest about and still got hired.. There is so many threads about I did this can I be a police officer, just putting the shoe on the other foot. It would show that honesty does pay off. No harm by it just interested that's all..

I guess the "being honest about" is what irks me. That implies that you can not be honest and still be hired. If the question was something to the effect of what have you done in the past and still been hired, that would be less insulting.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

Your reading to far into what I'm saying and construing the meaning. I wasn't meaning to try and sound deceitful just meant some examples of a not so bright past yet with honesty the PD overlooked a flaw and hired someone..

You're talking to a group of people whose job is to read into what people are saying to get to the truth of the matter. Asking us to not do that is sort of like asking bear not to crap in the woods.
