Applying to PD and wanted some advice

I am beginning my hiring process with a local PD. I am 22 years old. I recently graduated with a BS in criminal justice and did my internship with this department. I have a completely clean criminal background and have received one ticket 4 years ago for a failure to yield. Eagle Scout at 17.. The one thing that bothers me is my first semester of college (4 years ago) I fell into peer pressure and smoked weed once, took adderall once, and once stole an ipod from a party. I have done nothing illegal since 4 years ago and regret all of what I have done. I have had my job for the past 3 1/2 years. After that first semester i looked at myself and turned my life around and focused on school and God. I think I let the freedom of being on my own get to me and was very immature. I am going to be completely honest on my Personal History Statement and the Polygraph. I just went through a rough patch for one semester and would do anything to take it back now.. I just hope i am not DQ'd for this small time of immaturity and stupidity... Thank you for your time/ advice.

So go and " repay " the victim of the theft back if you at all can. Admit to what you did but focus on what you NOW have done and accomplished.

We all have some sort of baggage that we bring to the table. Time and a change of direction in ones life ( as evidenced by actual accomplishments rather than thoughts or intentions) goes a long way towards showing that you are a worthwhile applicant.

Thanks for the comment. I dont exactly remember where I took it from, but since then I have done community service at local food banks, volunteered at church, helped by giving money to charities. Hopefully this will help repay society in some way and better myself at the same time for the future.

Do you still have the iPod? Apple may know who rightfully owns it.

Funny thing is someone in my dorm freshman year stole the ipod out of my dorm room...my roommate was the worst person I have ever met at remembering to lock a door behind them when they left.
