Question What does being in process of background check indicate?

Does being through the process of oral board, submission of documents, Polygraph, show a full intention to hire, providing passing of background check.
I cant see an agency using all those resources for someone they MIGHT want to hire.
Thanks for any insight one can provide.

The oral board is part of the screening process to identify the most qualified candidates.

Applicants are traditionally scored based on the number of correct answers they give to job related questions on the written and oral.

From there, based on their combined written and oral scores, (highest goes first, next highest goes second, etc.) applicants move on to the background, medical and psych.

The background has three purposes, to verify your identity, to confirm that you possess the minimum qualifications for the position you are seeking and to determine is there is anything in your personal history that meets the criteria for disqualification.

The law does not allow an employer to administer a medical unless it is in connection with a bona fide offer of employment, so once you pass the background you should get a job offer contingent upon you passing the medical and psych.

Some agencies make the offer contingent upon you passing the background, medical and psych, but most hold off until after the b background has been completed..

    What the Lt said.

With the caveat that a conditional offer of employment does not always mean you will be immediately hired. They just need to do that (conditional offer) to be in compliance with law.

You can be given a conditional offer and placed on a hiring list.

Most hiring lists usually only last for one calendar year. If that list expires, you go through the whole thing again until you rank high enough to fill an opening.
This career is not a sprint, it is a marathon.

Like both lieutenants said, they obviously would like to hire you, but they aren't going to until they verify your background. If you've gone that far, you have a pretty good chance, yes. But I wouldn't put in notice at my old job for the reasons they both gave. I was hired about 2 months after I started the process, but I was #1 on the list. It took some nearly a year to work up to the top. I think about 20 were eventually hired off of that list.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine
