Wish me luck! I'm taking the written test with Medford, OR PD. It's my first choice department too. I'm really nervous... haha!

If you're too twitchy, luck won't matter. No need to be nervous as thousands of people have taken and passed police exams worldwide. If you have an exam that's part psych exam and designed to gauge your personality to see if you're a fit for their department, luck again, has nothing to do with it.
All you can do is relax and do your best.
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.
"Wrong door, buddy!"
Let no man's ghost say my training failed him.
I know I will do well on the written test. I've got a 97% average on practice tests. It's simply that this is something I want so much, that I'm afraid I will screw it up or not get it. That's why I'm a bit nervous. The only thing I think will be truly intimidating is the oral board, but I'm practicing for that too.
It's been my experience that, in some cases, the harder someone tries at something, the more apt they are to screw it up. Preparation is one thing, but you need to find a release and calm down before you sit down for the exam and drool on your answer sheet in happiness that you're actually there.

I thought the written test was the easiest part of the testing. You either know the answers or you don't, unlike the oral where they can challenge you on your answers and make you justify them. Good luck, hope it works out.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

Thanks Sgt. Slaughter. I will do my best to calm myself. And yes, the written is the earliest part of the testing process, at least for Medford. I know some places that combine the PAT and written in the same day though. Also, Medford does an assessment center, which I believe is uncommon for departments in Oregon. They put you in groups and see how you interact and use problem solving skills. Thank you, Retdetsgt; I hope so too.
