There are also a number of medical conditions such as colds, headaches, constipation, or neurological and muscular problems which can cause the physiological changes measured by the polygraph. The claim that an expert can tell when the changes are due to a lie and when they are due to other factors has never been proven. Even if the device measures nervousness, one cannot be sure that the cause of the nervousness is fear of being caught in a lie. Some people may fear that the machine will indicate they are lying when they are telling the truth and that they will be falsely accused of lying.
I totally agree. But, before you take the poly you are told to come well rested, in good health (i.e. a cold), and go to the bathroom beforehand. If you have "neurological and muscular problems" than what are you doing applying for a LE job? If you have nothing to hide and are overly nervous and as a result OF THIS you fail then you can't handle the job. So besides the fact it weeds out liers it weeds out the weak. Thats all I'm sayin.

disagree again. just because your body responds differently doesnt mean you cant handle stress. there are many people who have failed polys and are great cops in other agencies. and just cause you pass doesnt mean anything about handling stress.
