    My background

I am currently in the process of getting a job in law enforcement. I have completed the pre-employment testing and will have an interview in a few weeks. Here is my history, if there is anything that will keep me from getting a job please feel free to elaborate.
    Bad:
Tried marijuana 5-6 times during a 6 month span 2-3 years ago
1 speeding ticket, reduced to defective equipment
    1 window tint ticket
    1 license plate cover ticket
Twice gave marijuana from a friend to another, drove it to his house, no money involved
Once sold marijuana to a friend.
    Good:
Have a 2 year associates degree in general studies.
Working on bachelors degree in business.
    Never been arrested
Never got in trouble in school

I know the last two under bad may dq me in many or all organizations. Do I still have a shot of becoming a LEO? I am about to turn 21 and was 17 or 18 when all marijuana incidents happened.

You only tried marijuana 5 or 6 times, but managed to sell some and deliver it? Sounds like you were a lot more involved in weed that you admit. If I were your background investigator, I'd call BS on that.

You're going to have to put more than a couple of years and come college behind you for my old department. You'll need at least about 5 years of good, steady work experience and exemplary living for us.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

I have had a job for almost 3 years a well, and the reason i sold it to him is because my cousin had given it to me earlier in the day and i did not want it. The delivering was a favor for a guy that i worked with and were isolated incidents.

Arizona says no. One of the listed automatic disqualifiers says:

    9. Not have illegally sold, produced, cultivated, or transported for sale marijuana;
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

It still sounds like you were way too involved with weed. For someone wanting to be a cop, you did some dumb things. Sorry I didn't give you the answer you wanted, but we wouldn't hire you.

I know a fair share of people who have become law enforcement officers, and were much more "involved" when they were young and dumb with what you listed here.

Several are quite successful in their law careers

My guess is they differ from you in not listing things so absolutely trivial and likely not to be identified.

My question to ret would be:

    How did they do it?

So, you're advocating lying during the hiring process.

    Way to go, genius.

Selling weed is trivial? I still call BS on smoking dope 5 or 6 times and still being that involved in it. Notice he didn't challenge me on that?

Apparently all those people you know didn't get caught lying (yet) or they wouldn't have been hired.

I never advocated any such thing.

I honestly have no idea how they did it.

Of course you did. Lying by omission is still lying.

Besides, questions about past drug use are direct and on police applications. If you used or sold drugs and say no, it's a direct lie.

But I did not advocate lying.

I said I know people who have become successful police officers who had a more colorful youth than what the OP posted.

I said "guess", and asked "how"

I didnt say "lie", "omit" or "misleed"; anywhere

    Joe-

Random guesses on the part of any member do not help the OP and don't realty add anything to the discussion.

I'm going to ask you to be more specific in the information you are giving us about the people you know.

What, specifically, is in their background that is worse than selling drugs, and what departments hired them?

Also, by what standard do you label the sale and distribution of illegal drugs as "trivial" in reference to hiring people to enforce the law?

I drew the inference from your post. Sounded like a variation of 'end justifies the means'. If I thought that, there's a good chance others can/will and that's dangerous in this line of work.

Additionally, no one knows who the hell you are to proffer advice about backgrounds. You're just a random Joe with no intro.
