do i have a chance of getting hired?

hi all hope all is well.. i have a question that i have nightmares about because i can't ever find the answer so i finally found this forum i hope i have some luck :(.

I am 22 years old turning 23 in about 2 months, i don't remember exactly how old i was but somewhere around end of 8th grade till about end of 10th grade i had smoked marijuana.. and in 10th grade i believe it was i really don't remember....! that i was arrested for selling to an undercover police officer. but the problem was this kid from Sacramento moved down to socal and to my high school and had told me to go ahead and give me 5 dollars worth of weed to this guy in the bathroom and i did and i got the money from the undercover officer so a month later i got arrested for it but after that incident i went to court and i changed my life around i got clean and its been about 5 years or maybe more i have been clean i am getting married in about 4 months i have a fiance. i am currently in the dental field i went and finished a 8 month schooling for dental assisting because i thought i have no chance at becoming a police officer. i have been working with the same boss for 2 years now. but my true heart is to be a police officer and i also have 3 cousins applying and they also are becoming police officers but have clean back round. sorry for random info but i wanted to know if i have a chance or not? because i have a great job i am just afraid of leaving this job and a good boss and failing to become a police officer :(

My advice, keep your job. Your use of marijuana goes beyond what be considered experimentation and your arrest for selling would be a dq with almost any agency. I wish you good luck with whatever path you follow, it just won't be in law enforcement.

I commend you for cleaning up your act, but we wouldn't hire you. Even though all of this was done as a juvenile, it wasn't a random act. And if you got busted the very first time you sold weed, then you are a rarity indeed. We would assume ( and probably correctly) that this was the first time you got caught.

You smoked a lot of weed and you got arrested for selling it.

We can never say anything bad about someone who really has cleaned up their act but your past is fair game to look at in our profession and your past isn't good. We would not hire you either.
