Please recommend an online background check

    Hello,

I have a business and would like to start screening applicant backgrounds.Could you please give a recommendation for a good comprehensive service. There's so many I don't know which is best, so i figured I'd ask the pros!

    thank you for your help.

The one I would recommend is currently only available to law enforcement, but that should change in the near future as they plan to have the same platform available for private access. The database is called TLO (Welcome to TLO), and one of its founders is John Walsh (of "America's Most Wanted" fame). Fantastic resource, and while offering much more information than what you say you need, it does provide criminal history and civil litigation records.

Keep in mind this is my personal recommendation (having used many different ones and finding this to be the best I've used), not realpolice.net's or my agency's.

Thanks for the recommendation, but since I'm not qualified to use TLO. Do you have a second best opinion?

    thanks

I think it might depend on this but i'm not sure, I'm obviously not a L.E.O

I just got a new job and had to have a Level two background check and the company they used is called...Accurate bacckground ( 352) 369-0000 is their number they might be able to direct you, they recently contacted me on the phone that's how I know their number a company that I worked for in 2004 was bought out and the new company has no acknowledgement that I worked there so she was asking if I had a W2 or a paystub... not sure if this would help you but they seem to be on top of their game..good luck

I'd prefer a national background checks, because it would seem that only running a check within one state wouldn't be able to filter out criminals who have relocated.

Not sure if you read my post close enough. Private (non-law enforcement) access for TLO isn't available yet, but it will be in the near future. Wouldn't hurt to check out the contact info on the site and inquire about when public acess will be granted.

Be careful with any "National" database search from an Internet company. There are too many companies that make their own databases from public records which may not be accurate and the last thing you want to do is make decisions on bad data.

I can not post URL's so you may have to copy paste

With these online background checking services, you have to read the terms of service carefully. I've signed up for both and and both of these wouldn't be tailored to your needs because their TOS says you can't use it in consideration for housing, employment, benefits, etc.

Often times, all these companies do is extract as much data from public databases as possible. But they're sure good at making it convenient for you. But you need to find a company which can do it in a way that the results are accurate and up to date.

I went to the TLO website out of curiousity and I didn't see where it said you have to be in law enforcement (maybe that has since changed. ) It also offers a free 15 day trial which sounds good to me.
