    Misdemeanor charges and NYPD

Hey guys, new to the forums but have been reading them for the past couple of days. My exam for the NYPD is nearing the initial medical stage so I figured I'd stop in for some advice.

I'm 22 right now, full-time college student nearing a BA degree in History. When I was 19, I worked at an electronics store and unfortunately, being an immature punk, I took something that didn't belong to me, was caught, arrested and charged with petit larceny. I eventually plead guilty to attempted petit larceny, a class B misdemeanor in NY state.

With that, I was wondering if through all of your experiences if that's grounds for an automatic DQ in the NYPD process? I know that each case is different, and that honesty really is the best policy, but I guess I'm just looking for some info on whether or not Id be an automatic DQ.

Thanks for your help and I'll see you around the forums

Just curious but what is difference in charges between "petit larceny" and "attempted petit larceny?" Was the original charge a felony? Not a leo and I can't help you with auto DQ question. The reason I ask is that regardless of what plea bargain you were given, I would think more weight would be given to the arresting officer report and your account rather than the plea bargain. Especially if NYPD made the arrest.

You have at least 2 more yeasr and yes...they will consider you. The oral interview with the psychologist will determien if this was a one time thing or they think you have the potential to steal again.

Stealing at 8-16 is one thing and can be explained as a juvenile ......17 in New York you are an adult and a lot harder to explain.
