I am currently in the process of getting hired (hopefully) by a local police department. I was in the military stationed in Germany and as soon as I returned, I applied with this particular police department (This was a year ago). I got up to starting my background but was never called. I was told my the investigator that my application would look a lot better if I would enroll myself into the police academy. After my interview with him, I went ahead and did as he advised. I recently completed the academy and took my State Exam. Once I took my exam I went ahead and took the entrance exam with this particular PD again and passed. I took my physical agility and passed too. I was called by an investigator and my fingureprints were taken, my references were contacted and my background started. During my first interview with my investigator (which happened to be the same one from last year), asked me some questions and we went over my PHS. I have never done any drugs, been arrested, or been involved in any illegal activity. There is only one incident in my past (8 years ago). I got fired from the Border Patrol during my probationary period for copying answeres to a First Aid exam. This was a stupid mistake and I told my investigator this. My investigator told me that this should not be an issue because it happened a while back and since that issue, I was in the military where I earned several awards and was promoted to sergeant, I was awarded a Secret Clearance, I earned a BA in Criminal Justice, and I graduated from a police academy and passed my State Exam(TCLEOSE). The key word here is "should". The key word is "Should" beause he also told me that it all depends on the administration but he said he was going to "go to bat for me". This was a month ago.
I am really excited about my new career. I am only worried because I have been DQ before by other departments and I think it is because of my incident with the Border Patrol because I do not have anything else in my background that could disqualify me from the process.
Does anyone have any pointers or advise as to what I could do?
There is really no way to sugar coat my situation so when I am asked as to the way it happened, I am an "open book".
