I have been expressing interest in the law enforcement field for some time now, and I was wondering if recent things will disqualify me from becoming a police officer in the state of connecticut?
First off, I do not do drugs, I dont smoke, and my consumption of alcohol is minimal at best. however, I have had problems with my soon to be ex-wife.
She had left a household that was in my name with animals inside, and the animal control officer came and took the animals out of the place. The conditions were deplorable, and she pushed the whole thing on me saying i was the last resident in the household to be there. As such I was charged with 3 initial counts of animal cruelty, and since one of the cats had kitten at the time I was not there, it was bumped up to 8 counts. I was put into an ar program and had to do 150 hours of service at an animal shelter, and pay restitution to the shelter which took the animals. the case was dismissed at the end of the ar program.
The second issue was a domestic involving me bringing my ex home, she and i were arguing and she called 911 and told them i would not bring her home, even though i was seconds away from dropping her off. As such, the police arrived to her home and she stated that her (fake) hair had been pulled out by me. As such the cop charged me with 3rd degree assault and unlawful restraint. I was told to attend 9 counseling sessions and the case was dismissed.
However, these two things worry me because it harms my character and were caused by a mentally unstable woman. I dont want these things to ruin my chances at ever making it in law enforcement. Can someone let me know if these things would cause me to be DQ'd? Thank you.
