    Work History on background

    Hello everyone,

I am a new member, and searched for answer but came up with nothing. I'm 23 , fresh out of college and interested in a Law enforcement career. How much weight does 1 negative part time job history affect me in the Background check? I realized that industry just wasn't for me (banking/office), and all positions I've had were fine. A thank you to all who take the time to answer!

    Define "Negative."

If you got fired for stealing, it will have a large impact. If you just quit without giving notice, it will have a much smaller impact.
Also, the rest of your employment history makes a difference too. If that was the only job you ever had, it is a bigger deal than if you quit there, went out and got another job which you have held for five years now.

The negative job review in questions , wasn't stealing or anything like that. Basically it was a small town branch in a new location and not doing very well. They wanted to cut hours and had 3 tellers. The other 2 were children of upper management, so I got the short stick. I was laid off, Been there about a year and half and the 1st time it has happened to me.

Stuff like this unfortunately sometimes happens. Just know that as part of the background investigation they will go to the employer and talk with people (not just the boss, but also coworkers) to verify your claims. So long as your story coincides with what happened (ex: your story is you were laid off but they say they fired you for misconduct wouldn't go over well) it's probably not something to be overly concerned about if you don't have a pattern of employment problems in your job history.

Thanks Kimble, that's what I thought just wanted somebody to back it up. I'm applying for the TPWD Game wardens and it's pretty competitive. Just doing ride-alongs and getting everything in order.
