    Correctional officer BI question....

Hello everyone... I'm 27 yrs old and about to go through the BI for a county correctional officer..... I have no misdemeanors, or felonies. However, back in 2008 my girlfriend at the time (now wife) and I got involved in an arguement.... I was defending myself trying to get away but was charged with domestic violence...Based off the officers report and me having no priors the DA reduced it to a disorderly conduct and I received a $100 ticket... My credit isnt that great, but I have a stable employment history, including 7 years as an explorer with the sheriffs department..... I called and spoke with the county manager of BI's and she said she's never seen anyone disqualified based off of credit... so thats some relief.... anyone have any thoughts or suggestions??? Any help would be greatly aprreciated!!!

Ezzeke3, first off, Welcome to RP from the Florida Panhandle! Usually we ask people to go to the New Member Introductions section and post a thread introducing themselves. Coming into our online home and hammering us with questions before telling us who you are and a little about yourself is considered bad form.

As for your question, I am not in corrections so take my opinion for what it's worth. The fact that you were charged with domestic violence will be a bruise on your background, but the fact that it was reduced should mitigate that a bit. The credit thing could also be a bruise, but if the person from the agency you're applying to said it's not a big deal, then go with that. A steady employment history is also good, but please don't confuse being a VOLUNTEER explorer as being a part of your employment history. While you may have made some good connections and learned a bit, you were not employed by that agency, you volunteered your time.

Again, just my $.02. Either way, please come back to let us know how things went! Also, lots and lots of great info on the site, so dig right in and explore the space!

    Best of luck!

Our thoughts don't matter. Only those of the county in which you are trying to get hired do. I've also seen most BI's stay out of passing along information to applicants. Their job is a fact-finding, not decision-making. At least from what I've seen out West. Those decisions are made by command staff.

    Good luck.
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

    "Wrong door, buddy!"

Let no man's ghost say my training failed him.
