How can you can you cope with such a colossal disappointment?
Flat out, I can't think of anything "cooler" than being a cop.

can i get in on this?
strobe, your background is dirty than a gutter (not to be insulting but to honestly describe it), however, if you were hired i honestly believe you may do a good job. i don't believe you will ever get hired. the closest thing you may be able to get into in LE is the military. i'm so sorry to tell you that because it sucks knowing you probably can't be a cop. im not one yet, but it sure is an awesome career. so like i said i would call an army, navy, marine, the alike recruiter and see if any of your record would DQ from that.
i believe people can change, even over a short period of time. on a personal level (not back. investigator level) i could get over the criminal stuff-sh*t happens when we're young. the bankruptcy would be water under the brige. the amount of jobs you have concerns me about maturity. another big thing was your jokes about cops and the military in an earlier thread-1. cops can't say jokes like that so they don't offend people, 2. it showed when you were getting a little insulted or whatever you started firing back things. it showed a lot. however, good luck and i truely hope the best for you to accomplish what you want.

Even if you were fully qualified for the military, and you went in, I wouldn't even want you in my basic training flight (talking from USAF perspective). I don't think you should resort to the military as a way to make yourself look better. My whole life I wanted to be in public safety, but I chose the military to defend our country, at the time I saw that more important than protecting a community of people, simply b/c that community might not be there if it weren't for the military. I was in basic training and was going to graduate with honors if I made it that far. Unfortunately I was seperated during basic for a heart disease they found on my flight-statuts physical. I was recently hired with the Copperas Cove Police Department as a Communications Officer and begin training this week. To me, I am very honored to be one of those 11 dispatchers for my city. I went into the military to do an honorable thing, not make myself look better. I don't think you should go in, you just don't deserve it, and wouldn't do it for the right reasons. It is for a career, not a glorifier, which is what I think you are trying to do. You have no honor, integrity, anything of that sort. If I may, I request that you stop posting here. What you have said about donuts and **** like that offends me, and just shows your true level of maturity.

BTW: you aren't gonna get any leo job ;)

The recent bankruptcuy is actually a pretty big red flag and will be so for a few more years. Yes, there are some agencies that care about traffic violations. Others don't as long as the DL is valid and the fines are paid. The S/A thing is an automatic show stopper for many agencies. Even if it was 20 years ago. In some states you could still get a job as a Special Policeman for a town or something as many of those Special Police groups have lower background investigation standards. Likewise in some states you can still run for sheriff and become the guy in charge.

From replies, PD looks at your "record" like a civillian employer looks at your "resume". I had no idea it is that paramount for the job. Past is usually a good indicator for the future, but not always. But it seems like they don't care about that, and they will not make any exceptions, and they will not give you a second chance, they assess probability of your future with the record of your past like IRS scanning 1040 form.

I don't think it's fair that I will be punished for the duration of my entire life for something that I did when I was 18. The interest in LE is not for money - I would still do it even if it paid $10 an hour. (cops here make $60,000 base)

There are somethings I can accept. I know I won't be Bill Gates, US Pres., have body of Arnold, but not being able to become a cop, which is a fairly ubiquitous, I almost can't accept.

Almost feel like inflicting a centerpunch to the head with a 38.

I know that it would not be my background holding me back. In addition to what I mentioned I am also a great test taker. The point I was making was that in the extremely competitive world of law enforcement, every little thing counts. The department can simply feel you are not right for their department and DQ you.
You can check out the military, but you must realize that you are going into a totally structured environment. This is for your entire enlistment, 24/7. Any attitudes are quickly snuffed out and your are basically forced to conform.

So I guess then if i just go out and beat the **** out of some old lady in the HEB parkind lot until she dies and then laugh it off, i should not get death or life in prison? Come on kid (i say that because that is the mentality you seem to have right now, what's this about a 38?), accept what you did and move on.

CO. Dep that is an excellent reply. Strobe, consider this. I've been a cop for 11 years including four with a Highway Patrol agency. I served in the Army before graduating with a law degree. The last process I participated in I scraped through and was hired. Now I'm not the world's best cop and don't pretend to be, but if recruiters are looking hard at CO Dep or me, what will they think of your application? You can't seriously think that being in good shape or winning drag races at high school will overcome your criminal history do you? Your ability to outrun teenagers and recite the CRS would be great but a fat illiterate WITHOUT a pattern of criminal behavior has a better chance of being hired than you. Over the past few days I gave your scenario to a bunch of buddies and they asked their recruiters. Here are the unsolicited replies from 4 seperate CO PD's or SO recruiters:
"No,", "No", "No" and strangely enough, "No". The last one was from a recruiter looking for detention deputies. I'm interested to hear what you find out from recruiters.
    Blessed are the Peacemakers...

we will get back to you at a later date!!

:D WOW! Don't mean to be harsh but that is probably what you will be hearing alot. It really depends on the state now I live in Texas and T.C.L.E.O.S.E. says no way, even if it's been expunged. absolutely no felony convictions. now if you happen to be in a state that says it's a misdemeanor then you are in luck you will only have to wait for 10 years before you can get into an academy. If you are really serious about wanting to be a Police officer then find out who your state organization for law enforcement officers are and ask them. If you are in Texas it is the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education. If you are able to get a state license in this state or any others you will find employment, it may not be with a big department but you will be the POLICE in that neck of the woods. GOOD LUCK, and stay out of TROUBLE
