Can I become an American LEO with a Canadian collge degree?

I'm a high school senior about to graduate in New England. I'm probably going to end up going to a Canadian college because I have dual citizenship and the cost is significantly less. I want to become a special agent in the FBI or DEA eventually and right now I'm planning on joining through either working for a local or state police department or the military. So does anybody know if a Canadian college degree would disqualify me. For the city I live in, the department website merely says a minimum of two years employment or three years post secondary education.

Thank you very much for reading this

First of all, Welcome to RP from the Florida Panhandle! Please feel free to look around and learn the boards, really explore the space! Also, start a thread in the New Member Introductions area and tell us a bit more about yourself.

I can't see where having a degree would disqualify you, as having a degree is better than not. As to whether the specific agency you wish to apply to will accept your Canadian degree, that is not something that I can answer. There are, however, probably people on here with the two agencies you listed who may be able to help. But as you stated, you're looking to join a local or state agency first, and you're most likely going to just have to contact those agencies to see what they say about having a degree from a Canadian college.

There is a guy in my agency who has a degree from a Christian college here in town. It's a very good college, and many people hire those who graduate from there because of their solid foundation and education. Unfortunately for him, the State of Florida does not recognize his degree for education incentive pay ($80 per month) due to the fact that the college is not accredited through any regional or national associations. As for whether his degree helped him get hired or not, I don't know, but I'll try and find out and let you know.

Federal agencies require (through hiring policy created by the US Office of Personnel Management) higher degrees used to qualify for federal jobs to be accredited by a council recognized by the US Dept of Education. Essentially, if you want to be a US LEO (at least within the federal government) you'd need to ensure the foreign school is recognized by the US Dept of Education, otherwise your wasting your money.
