    Question Dispatcher background Please help

Hello. I am here looking for advice and this is my first post.

I was just offered a police dispatch job on a university campus. After requesting wage history from the social security office and all other documents, I see that I have several jobs that arnt listed on my resume I submitted. i was directed when putting together my resume to focus on the main jobs I held. I was under the age of 21 and had several jobs that i only worked a few months. the truth is i left a job I loved my first job of almost a year and then for awhile it was down hill. From 2002-2008 I had 12 jobs. all together I have had 13 jobs in about ten years. I have never been fired. I have been at my current employer for three years. I am really stressing over the fact the the year i went to school was a year off from my resume and thats when these jobs were and the fact that i had these jobs for only a few months. Do you think this will hurt me?

I also filed bankruptcy a few years ago and it has been discharged. Although I didnt mention this to the person hiring me he told me that they know in this day and age with the economy no one will be perfect.

Because it is going to be a long period until I get results for this, I am considering emailing the supervisor who has been wonderful all along and explain the above and see what he thinks. What does everyone else think? havent found much on dispatchers most is police forums. (wish i was brave enough for that- i envy anyone who is in that line of work)

I have never done drugs other than perscription pain meds and have never been fired. Any advice or thoughts would be greatly and sincerely appreciated.

Also anyone have any advice if i pass this horrid background what the psyciatric exam is like?

I should also mention that the last 4.5 years i have been employed with the aiport for an airline so I have never had any background problems although i have never listed every job i have held either.

thanks again and sorry for the length.

    TA1985-

    Welcome to the forum!

Have you been at your current job for 3 years, or 4.5? (You say both things in your post...)

Having that many jobs isn't great, but you were a kid, and having a stable work history recently will do a lot of good to fix that.

I have never heard of a dispatcher position for which they only ask for a resume. Every one around here they have a long application to fill out as well (similar to the one the officers fill out), with the background information in it.

If they only asked for a resume, then I agree, they only want the highlights. I don't think you need to call them and "come clean" about anything. I would imagine that at some point, they will give you a background info packet to fill out, but until they do, just let them do their process and try to relax.

The bankruptcy would hurt you if applying for a sworn position, but I honestly don't know how it'll be seen for a support role.

If you have other questions, feel free to ask, and keep us posted on your progress.

    Good Luck!

Sorry about that. I have worked in an airport environment for 5 years and been at my current job for three. I filled out a quick application with my resume when i applied but i put on there exactly the same thing i have in my resume. Its the same information I have used for several years even with the airport.

To be honest until I went to social security office I didnt remember that I has so many jobs in 04 and 05. they have given me a very long background packet to fill out and i have went ahead and listed every position i ever had so now i hope that i will still be good enough. That is why i am worried.

No, if you list everything in the background packet (when they ask for it) you should be fine.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You are providing the accurate information on the background questionnaire and will most likely be given an opportunity to explain anything they are curious about. (Unless you intentionally left out unfavorable information that they were forced to locate.)

Cross that bridge when you come to it and don't stress out.

    Good luck.
