to the LEO..give it a shot, or dont waste my time.

    Hello everyone!

I just need some honesty before I pursue this career. I really need to know if I have a pretty good chance of getting in with today's economy and competition ratio before I start actually going for it and I know it would not be a waste of time, or I just have no chance at all.

-1 arrest when I was a juvenile (case was dismissed) the problem was, it was with my father; I pushed him away from me, he hurt his knees when he tried to hold me (that's what happened)

-smoke marijuana once ever (one puff, never liked it) about 3 years ago

    -I am 24 years old

-I live on my own and have decent credit (have 2 cars, an ATV, and an APT under my name) However, I am in debt about 2500$, But I am rarely late on my payments

    -63 college credits

-I stole a few merchandise form my job not totaling more then 20$ through out the 5-6 years I been working there (sad I know, I regret it)

-I weigh 180 lbs, just an avg build not really stocky or "big" (dont know if this matters)

-only had one job and never been fired or suspended, but I have been written up about 3 times out of the 5 years I been there.

Domestics are never good but juvy stuff that got dismissed isn't much to consider.

-smoke marijuana once ever (one puff, never liked it) about 3 years ago

Some dept's require 5 yrs drug free.

-I am 24 years old 24 is ok

-I live on my own and have decent credit (have 2 cars, an ATV, and an APT under my name) However, I am in debt about 2500$, But I am rarely late on my payments Almost everyone has a little debt.

-63 college credits Maybe an AA degree in the vicinity ??

-I stole a few merchandise form my job not totaling more then 20$ through out the 5-6 years I been working there (sad I know, I regret it) Did you ever consider PAYING back what you stole ??

-I weigh 180 lbs, just an avg build not really stocky or "big" (dont know if this matters) We ar emore concerned over you passing the physical agility test.

-only had one job and never been fired or suspended, but I have been written up about 3 times out of the 5 years I been there.
Written up for something that could have led to a criminal charge or just for " being late ? "

I've already done the PAT and passed that with ease.
I have not received my AA degree yet, but will receive it in about 3 months

I am sorry, but I do not know what to think of this "Domestics are never good but juvy stuff that got dismissed isn't much to consider" (so you are saying that can hurt me or they will just look at it as an incident and overlook the arrest?) the charge was battery, but it was dropped anyways.

and I have not paid it back yet, but I will for my own conscious.

It would have been nice if your conscious would have kicked in before I had to mention it to you ??!!

You "MIGHT" have a chance later down the road.. But I suggest a college degree, and/or time in the military. It's going to present hurdles for you. The theft from the employer is going to be the biggest thing, next to the juvenile charge for battery domestic as a juvenile. But right now, your chances are nill. I suggest the college, miltary route and put a good 10 years or so between you and now before attempting.

I'm on my way for a college degree, however, I wanted to join the military, but I can not. I talked to a recruiter and I told them I have chronic heart burn and I wanted to, but they said you have to go in basic training without taking any meds (I take nexium) and it is extremely painful and uncomfortable without it. however, they do have a procedure that cost a few thousands to get rid of that. I really do wish I can join. Though, I am just thinking of enduring the pain and going on, unless one of you guys knows I can take maybe prilosec form wal-mart?

Anyways, I was thinking of just paying for my police academy out of my own pocket. Would that help me any?

@mcsap ha ha, ya I know. I thought about it many times, I guess I always hesitant about it. But I do promise, I will.

so My biggest thing is that I took a few merchendise from my job? That is my obstacle? I probably did not clarify exactly what happend. Maybe it would make a difference, however, to me, it is still called stealing, but maybe I can have a shot at an earlier point in time if I presented to you exactly what happened.

Well, it was a box of oatmeal that i guess people took previously, so I asked my manager if I can take it and he said yes. The other was a drink I just took from the cooler; that one, I got no permission for. But that is what happened.

But I do thank you for answering! I will give it sometime, maybe do some community service to pay back what I have took.

They are hiring in new york? I thought they had a freeze, ha ha.

I live in south Florida and almost all agencies have a freeze. They are only accepting certified LEO. Only highway patrol have positions for non certified.

Is there still a freeze in most states? And do you think (based on opinions, or even facts!) there will always be such little openings from here on?

Anyways, thank you guys. I greatly appreciate it.

Have you ever received a prescription for it instead of OTC? Protonix is a prescribed version of that stuff and there are others. If the condition is not DQing for service, can you go to sick call in basic and get prescription after doctor evaluates the condition? Is acid reflux or hiatal hernia a DQing condition for armed services? My buddy used to go to sick call for injuries in marine corps boot camp and the cure-all prescribed and issued by the doctor was Motrin which you couldn't bring with you but was obviously available when Dr. prescribed it (didn't cure the stress fracture in his foot though). Other than that, I have no idea what they would be willing to prescribe for boot camp but you should ask if you are serious.

Just go for it guy. Nothing in life is guaranteed, so you won't get a guarantee from me. I see nothing in your background that would DQ you immediately, at least not in Texas.

I asked in the army, but I heard in the air force, you are allowed to take prilosec OTC or some tums. And yeah, unfortunately, I have a hiatal hernia, though I am not sure if that is considered DQ for armed forced. I really do want to join, to server my country and to gain experience in my life. Even though I am 24 and I know quite a bit for my age, I always learn and grow from something.

And thank you! I can try out texas! It is great to have your support! Would you mind, what parts are hiring in Texas? Or should I go figure it out myself =P

Hiatal Hernia is disqualifying for all branches of the military, at least it was a couple years ago. It's a DoD regulation. You would have to get that fixed to go in. If they discover you failed to mention it you will be discharged.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

Translation for the intellectually challenged: If the government screws the people too much, it is the right and duty of the people to revolt and form a new government.
