Failed polygraph: Will they tell you?

Hey all, I haven't been on here in a while, but I was wondering if someone could help me out. I'm thinking about testing again and am filling out an application and it asks about past polygraphs. I've taken 3 in the past, 1 I know I failed (they told me), and the other 2 they never told me the results, but the polygrapher said that everything "looked good" both times. The other 2 I took were with the same department, taken a couple of years apart during different testing cycles. Both times I got the rejection letter in the mail that stated that they had "more qualified applicants." I don't think I failed the other two, but on the application it asks for previous polygraphs and results. I don't want to list that I passed them if I'm not 100% sure. Would they have told me outright that I failed it?

    Not necessarily.

If you don't know, list the results as "Unknown." They will be able to contact the department and ask if they want.

In Virginia, the Administrative Code governing polygraph examiners states that you are entitled to a copy of any of your pre-employment polygraph reports by requesting them in writing from the department to which you applied. Your state may have similar laws.
