    will this disqualify me?

    i want to either join the LAPD or LASD but need help on if i could be disqualifed for this
    is this an automatic bar?
    When i was younger at the age of 16 i given a persciption to legally use medical marijuana in ca. it was a legitament doctor. my family doctor had recommended me to his office and signed a parent consent form because i was under the age of 18. that sure did not help me when i ran into the law. everytime i had been stopped by a peace officer i was charged for possesion of paraphanelia a pipe, marijuana on more then one ocassion, lighter. my biggest case was possession for sales of marijuana. even though i was not selling marijuana they had written me up for sales. i had less then an ounce on me but i did have a scale. i informed the officer that i had the scale because i had taken it to the medical shop but they sure didnt believe me. everytime i had gone to court for any of those cases i have been charged. so i went to court and fought my for sales case and i was charged dont know if it was a felony or not but it was deliqunicy court in pasadena but im sure it was a felony. mandatory probation for 1 year and drug test and 70 hours community service. this all happened when i was at the age of 16 i am now 21 and have straighten out everything. i have used hash once in my life and have not done so for 4 years. i used marijuana i would assume more then 30+ times. i have not used marijuana in 4 years. i have not tried or used any other drugs. school grades averaging about 3.5gpa. doing lots of volunteer community service. i had also wanted to join the sheriff explorer program but i feel that i could also be disqualifed for all of the things i mentioned above. and id probably be the oldest in explorers because its till age 21. all records have been sealed for my possesion for sales case but dont know if that matters. and i can legally buy a firearm in ca

    Yes, automatic most places. Sealed records won't matter, LE can "see" those.

    What was the medical issue you needed marijuana for?

    The reason I ask is because you started at 16, then later say that you haven't used in over four years. It must not have been all that serious a problem if you only used for so short a time.

    Ya know, never mind... it's not important. The frequency of use, the hashish, and the felony are almost certain to disqualify you. I wouldn't spend lots of money chasing a criminal justice degree if I were you.

    what if charges were reduced to minor posession of marijuana because honestly i do not know what was outcome of the case just that i was on probation. i was perscribed for pain for dislocating my shoulder and sleeping disorder. i had to stop because i had mantadory drug test due to probation. and actually im not to far away from a 2 year degree in criminal justice

    What kind of quack doctor prescribes marijuana for an easily recoverable injury?

    If true, (which I have my doubts) I can easily see why the cops that arrested you didn't believe your story.

    Honestly not knowing what you were eventually charged with isn't going to matter. If you like, the guy doing your background can find out for you, and include that in the "Thanks for applying, don't call us, we'll call you" letter.

    As for the degree, is it too late to change your major?

    If not a DQ , you have significantly damaged yourself by your actions. You were arrested multiple times for drugs and have a drug sales charge. Why would a PD even want you when their are candidates that have NONE of these issues ?

    multiple DQ in AZ
    1. Not have illegally sold, produced, cultivated, or transported for sale marijuana;
    - this seems to correlate to your citation and conviction, excuses notwithstanding
    2. Not have ever illegally used marijuana other than for experimentation;
    - The use of marijuana exceeds a total of 20 times or exceeds five times since the age of 21 years = not experimental
    3. Not have illegally used a dangerous drug or narcotic, other than marijuana, for any purpose within the past seven years.
    - Your hasish use.

    Those are minimums.

    Agencies sometime petition the board for a candidate to find that their use was "experimental" even though it exceeds the limits above. I don't think it's common. Also, your conviction seems to contradict your legitmate use story as a prescription.

    I don't think you have a chance without a LOT of time between this and the conviction. Then it would be slim to none. Honorable service in the military might help if you qualify. Maybe Coast Guard could offer a path to LEO role that could give a reason to hire after service? Dunno. I would definitely change majors.

    Just my 0.02 and I am not a LEO.

    "Maybe Coast Guard could offer a path to LEO role that could give a reason to hire after service?"

    Not sure the Coast Guard could do anything to help. They have been downsizing and it's harder than ever to get in. Plus...they have standards, too. The Nation's Premier Maritime Service would not look too kindly on extensive drug use/sales due to the fact that keeping this garbage off of the street is one of the major missions of the Coast Guard. Good luck either way.

    sadly i talked to marine recruiter and army recruiter and was told they would not take anyone with any prior felonies. that if courts reduced the charges and i can prove they have on paper then i can apply for a waiver to join the military for my misdemeanors. i am now in the process of bringing my case back up and requesting for it to be reduced to a lower charge as a misdemeanor and for it to be expunged and or dismissed? will this help my chance of being a leo or am i just wasting my time. if these still bar me from being a leo then i am fine with joining the military and hopefully that does me some good
