Polygraph in February for State Police

I heard a common question is: Have you ever had a sexual relationship with any of your female coworkers in your past? And if answered yes the next question is: Have you ever had sex with a female coworker while on duty? Will an answer of yes disqualify you??

I take it your answer is "yes?"

Only the agency to which you are applying can tell you if that answer would disqualify you. All in all, it is a good idea to just answer the questions truthfully and let the chips fall where they may. If they find out you lied on your application that WILL be an automatic disqualification, whereas having sex with a coworker during office hours may or may not be.

Ok thank you. I was gonna be honest anyhow but was curious how strongly that would come into play during the hiring decision. That's about the only thing I don't have going for me in the big scheme of things. So, hopefully all the pros outweigh the one issue.

Not a LEO but two issues could generate this type of question: 1) the department has a a problem or history with this and it reflects badly on them not to screen (a department here asks about explicit web photos for exactly that reason) and/or 2) it's a form a of theft and is an integrity issue. The theft one is probably more common/serious. You should know whether your indiscretion would be considered stealing (i.e. were you hourly or exempt, was she hourly or exempt?). That was an issue with local dept where commander was having affair and met lover during normal business day. His status as exempt made it a local discipline case instead of a referral for theft incident to employment to the certification board. It doesn't excuse his behavior but it was viewed differently by the dept to the chagrin of rank and file officers that would have been referred to the standards board and had their certification put in jeopardy. Theft is considered bad for a career in LE.

P.S. You if you have a sense of humor you can borrow a modified line from "Stripes" to give your BI: "Female Coworker? No. Never 'female'. But I'm willing to learn."

P.P.S. I don't think BI's think anything recruits say are funny.
