Anything you say can be used against... someone else?

    Hey everyone,

I'm curious about a part of the background investigation process, and I'd like to know what I may be in store for if I get to that point in either a LEO or military hiring process.

During college I was around pot-smoking twice. In neither case did I actively remove myself from the situation, which was probably dumb, but that's not really what I'm worried about (I did not smoke it myself). I assume if I am asked about this they may ask who I knew that was smoking.

One of the people smoking was a friend. I doubt that they would bring charges against someone even if it was last week, but should I worry about it getting back to the person by them being visited by someone to ask about it?

My choices are only really to either warn the person, not worry about it, or not apply for positions that require that sort of background check. In other words, I'm not going to lie and say I've not been around pot, but I'd just like to know what the consequences might be for me and others, if it's not something that I shouldn't be told.

    Thanks!

No, they are not going to start a criminal investigation of marijuana use in colleges based on your background process.

But if your friend still smokes, and you become a cop, that is going to put you in an awkward position. Time to make some long term decisions, I think.

Thanks. He was considerate and a nice guy, but I haven't seen him in years (since college). Someone might speak to him, since he was a roommate, though.

You will be fine. My roomie was high the entire first year. Rule was no smoking in the room. No dope in the room. I find it and not only does it make its way to campus security, but I would make sure he paid "sufferd" in my own way. Thankfully he took our chat the third day of college to heart and played by "our rules." He transferred out after the next year.

Thirteen years latter...he is local on the road truck driver picking up small jobs barely making ends meet. Glad to see the pot helped him!
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.
