    Medical Question - Survey

Hello, i'm currently in the process of becoming a police officer. The next step for me is to complete my medical examination.

The only problem i have, is that i have a mild/moderatre scoliosis curve in my spine. Now as far as ANY of my research has shown, the candidate is individually assessed for their abilities to perform the initial functions of their duty. I've been unable to get a straight answer as to if this is, or is not, an important disqualifying factor.

I've been treated for this condition for 7 years and have absolutely no physical limitations. My orthopedic specialists only care to see me on 5-year intervals due to the fact i'm stable.

My question now is, Does anyone possibly have further information regarding scoliosis medical requirements, or are there currently any police officers with scoliosis who can share their thoughts?

    Thankyou

I don't know enough about the diagnosis to make an informed decision. My guess would be that as long as you can pass the requirements and do the job, you should be ok. However, the stress of policework might hurt you in the longrun?

WIll your doctor give you a letter certifying that your condition will not affect you in the performance of the duties as an LEO ?

If so, I think that you should have no concerns. If not, I forsee a problem.

I've been a civilian dispatcher for 2 years now, so i know first hand the stresses of police work. And i already have a letter from my doctor stating that in his professional oppinion he sees no reason for concern.

I just wanted to thank you both for your Reply's.

You know the stresses of policework from the dispatcher part, but it is not the same as policework, not at all.

I wonder, mc, if getting a letter from your personal doc will be enough? Our doctor (all agencies in my county use the same one) must give his ok beyond what any other doctor says.
