Should I mention this on my personal history statement?

I used to be a police cadet for a large city in Texas, I went through the exact same 9 month hiring process police officer applicants go through. I was ultimately hired. I had to take a polygraph and admitted to these questions:

-Stole a package of Reeses peanut butter cups when I was 16 - only theft, I was never caught but admitted to it on pre polygraph.

-I am in a relationship with my girlfriend, and have been since sophomore year of highschool (6 years). This means that there was a brief time gap when I was an adult and she was a minor and we were sexually active.

-I have used limewire in the past, but no longer use it.

I am now applying for another agency on the complete opposite side of the country in a state that does not use polygraphs. The personal history statement does not have a place to list any of the above. There is a section that asks "Is there anything else that background investigator should know?"

Should I put the above listed items in this section, or leave them off the personal history statement? Im not quite sure what they are asking for on that anything else question. I want to be honest, and they are going to get a copy of my background check file in Texas anyways, im sure so I think I should probably go ahead and mention it.

    What do you think?

Yes. If one agency hired you anyway, why not go ahead and just spill the beans? It will take stress off of you and it will be there to deal with. Plus, honesty dictates you be honest. Everyone has skeletons in the closet.

    Good luck!

if you DON'T tell them , will you have a concern they will find out and use it against you ?

If yes, then tell them. Tell them so that there will be NO suprises or accusations of omitting information down the road.

By the simple fact you feel compelled to ask this tells me you realize you should disclose this information. Whether you do so or not, the consequences of lying and being caught are guaranteed disqualification... it's really that simple.

My question has nothing to do with me thinking about lying, I would never do that. My question focuses more if I need to disclose this on the personal history statement since they will already see my background file from TX which already has this information in it.

Not sure if you read anyone's post above (past the suggestions to be honest), but it should be fairly clear from those responses that it would be to your benefit (if you want the job) to disclose this information. Choice is yours, though.
