And there it is folks. HIRED for department A (AKA my first choice and first application!) Its been a long and grueling 3 months but I'm at the other side now and I am starting Monday!
Very excited. I feel very blessed to have this opportunity and to have been deemed acceptable. I have been scrutinized, judged, investigated and put under a microscope, but I finally have my dream job!
I have a week's worth of paperwork to fill out next week then I'm off to academy on the 7th.
Some advice based off of my experience:
1. LIVE RIGHT. If you want a job in LE then you must live your life right. Certain crimes and certain behavior will shut the door for you. So you must be living your ENTIRE life right, not just the past 2 years since you have decided to become a cop.
2. BE HONEST. In every aspect of the hiring process. The same question will be asked 5 or 6 times over the course of the hiring process, if you are trying to lie you must have a very good memory.
3. Remeber, at the oral board you are talking to REAL PEOPLE, not mythical creatures from another demension. Have fun. Be yourself. Do your best.
4. The written exam IS important. I may not be where I am today if I didn't knock the written exam out of the park with this department. I still haven't heard anything from the other departments and its been a couple months.
more may come later. Baby just woke up gotta go play dad![]()

Allow me to congratulate you on your accomplishment! It's truly a great feeling to be picked up by your first choice agency! It must have been a tough and grueling 3 months! LOL It took me about 3 YEARS to finally get on with my first pick agency!
As for your advice, excellent! Hopefully many people will read it and heed it in their searches for entry into this career.
Keep us informed on your progress through the academy, and once you get on full time and are sworn in, send me a PM with your information and get yourself verified (Verified LEO info here).

Congrats. Enjoy the training, even the worst day has something you can laugh about.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.
Translation for the intellectually challenged: If the government screws the people too much, it is the right and duty of the people to revolt and form a new government.
What a day of paperwork. On the plus side they informed us (me and the 4 other new hires) that we will be tased on Friday.
Something to look forward to.
