    TX DPS Jan 2011

    Time for a new thread!

Since I'm tracking for the January class, I'll jump in and start this one up.

I'm flying to Austin tomorrow for the PT/ Written Test/ Fat Check tests going down on the 4th. If anyone is in the process or has any questions, sound off!

    Good luck to everyone!

Survived first phase and am glad to be past the test. Again, we lost 2/3 of the applicants through the PT & written test. It was good to see the DPS campus and watch some of the current recruits marching through the halls. I'm now waiting on the Polygraph test, which I'm told should come in the next couple of weeks.

The highlight of the trip was meeting and riding with Safety Steve. Spent the night chasing non-safe people blasting through Steve's area. I can say officially that he does frown on non-safe driving as many found out. To say the least, I'm ready for that job! I'll post a picture once I figure out how to in this picture area.

Joining a local Crossfit gym this evening.

Effective today, I'm working on the run in the AM and Crossfitting in the evening. I'd like to get to where I'm doing a mild PT test M/W/F with max everything. Tue/ Thrs will be easy mornings with 4-5 mile runs.

I'm hoping that the Crossfit will just tear me up good. with only 10-11 weeks to go, I wish I had started this earlier.

    Good luck to all applying!

    Just got the Polygraph call!

So, I'll be back in God's Country Thursday (this week) through Saturday. Best part is that I get to bug Safety Steve again.

Man I'm pumped! Now, off to get a suit!

Just keep yourself focused with your eye on the goal and you'll do ok.

    Good Luck!
Excuse me Officer, I have a stupid Question. "No problem, I've got a stupid answer for you!"

Posting from my phone. I posted yesterday and it didn't take for some reason.

Passed the Poly. I saw the memo from the LT that tested me saying I was confirmed truthful...lol. He told me it would be Emailed off within the hour so all my background stuff gets started next week. Very squared away individual. In fact all the Troopers and DPS I have run across are top shelf.

Scored another ride-along last night with Safety Steve. We shut down 35 and I got to see how the laser works. Good Lord that is a useful piece of equipment! I've only had use of radar back when I was fighting crime and suppressing evil. Always wondered how you could effectively enforce speed in medium+ traffic on a multiple lane highway. Those things can turn you into a highway ninja! Anyway, I highly recommend not speeding through Safety Steve's zone.

Waiting for the plane to carry me back to NC after another successful trip.

Hopefully this week starts the BI. I'm working on General Orders and mixing Crossfit with Tabata Intervals and Interval Training to better my run. I still think I have a good shot getting through the BI before Thanksgiving. Actually the timing seems perfect for them to want to blast through it before the holiday.

I'm still pretty motivated, and blessed with a good support system already in place. 10 weeks until the academy starts!

Tomorrow AM starts up hard training again! In the AM I'm doing 2 lap sprint (1/2 mile), 90 second rest, then 1.5 mile run at a 7-8 min/ mile pace. In the evening, I will do the Crossfit 40 min workout followed by the WOD. Still hoping to hear something this week from the BI, but being Thanksgiving week, I'm not going to hold my breath. Good luck to all those applying!

Finally got the call that they are starting my Background Investigation! It is hard to believe that they are moving as fast as they are (compared with a year ago). Hopefully all will go well and I'll be on to the next phase within a couple of weeks!

Usually takes about 2-3 weeks to hear something about the next step in the process. Its all a waiting game!

No, I'm a Trooper. I went through B-09. This site and Officer.com helped me alot going through the hiring process, so I can only return the favor. Let me know if you have any questions though and I'll try to help out with what I can.
