Hello, I just want to know if my past will disqualify me for being in any law enforcement field. I would like to be a state trooper or a city police officer. I am 18 years old and I live in New York. I graduated high school and I'm currently in college and am going to get an Associates degree and maybe even a Bachelors. I just want to know if my past can exclude me from ever being in the LE field.
About a year ago I did some stupid ****, me and a couple friends went to a golf course at night and rode around on the golf carts. The police were called and the owner never filed charges but it was supposedly reported on file. And about the same time I got two traffic tickets and because I had a junior license, my license was suspended for 60 days, it was a imprudent speed ticket and an unsafe lane change ticket. I have also smoked pot a couple times(four times).
I have never been arrested before or done any hard drugs. I still am only 18 and I know I can't be an officer until I'm 21 but I just want to know if I will be excluded. By the time I'm 21 and able to try for LE my driving record will be clean and I do not plan on getting in any trouble. Any helpful advice is greatly appreciated...
Thanks!
